Introduction

Hello and welcome to your Georgia Department of Natural Resources Map help section. Using this map, you can find out not only the locations of DNR- owned or -managed locations, but also useful information about these places. Think of this as a "one-stop shop" for planning your next trip to a DNR location. This help section shows you what you need to know about how to use the map, including the three major features - the Locations tab, Things to Do tab, and Directions (accessible from both tabs). After you have reviewed the help section, please feel free to use the map as much as you want. Thank you for using the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Map!

Locations

Use the Locations tab to show EACH of the places where selected Department of Natural Resources attributes exist in Georgia. The menu to the left of the map is where you can select which attributes to display. The attributes are categorized according to the type of activity or use. For example, if you select golf from the left menu, all DNR-owned golf courses display on the map as a unique icon.

This tab not only shows locations of a certain place on the map, but it also shows property boundaries (subject to change), NOAA navigation maps of the coast, and you can use it to get directions to DNR locations. Once you select and display an attribute on the map, click the icon on the map to display a box containing information about the selected site. That information includes: contact info, links to DNR web pages, directions, and other amenities at that location.

Things to Do

Use the Things to Do tab to find your results based on a match of ALL the attributes you select from the Map menu on the left. Use this tab to look for locations that match multiple attributes. For example, if you want to find a park or wildlife management area that has both a lodge and a golf course, you would check the boxes for both lodge and golf on the menu. Only the places that have both a lodge and a golf course will display. This feature is useful for planning a visit that will satisfy everyone in your party!

Results matching the Find Location search for the Park & Lands tab will appear as dots on the map, while matches for the Boat Ramps tab will appear as dots. The DNR Lands tab is used to display DNR land areas for reference, but is not used to match results for either Parks, or Boat Ramps. This is particularly useful to determine if boat ramps are located within WMAs.

Directions to a Site

The directions feature provides turn-by-turn directions and routing from your point of origin to the destination you choose. Directions are provided when you click on an icon from the map and then click the "directions" link in the information box. This feature is in the information boxes that are provided by both "Locations and "Things To Do" searches. It will then create a route to the selected location. (The directions feature will not be available if you do not allow the browser to find your current location*.)

Once you activate the directions from the information box, you will see a route created from your GPS location* or the starting point you entered, to the DNR site you selected. Your current location or start point is designated by an icon with an "A" and the end point is an icon with a "B". You can move the start points, end points and connecting line to create a new route. Turn-by-turn directions, with distances and estimated time of travel, display just below the map itself and will update themselves when you adjust the route. You can also scroll through the turn-by-turn directions. To remove the directions and route, click the X on the directions panel.

*GPS Location is used if your device has the ability to provide your GPS location and if that ability is enabled. Usually the browser will provide an alert that the software is attempting to determine your location. Most likely you will be given options to disallow, allow once, or always allow GPS location for this web site. If your computer does not have GPS capability or if you decline to allow it, directions will not be provided. This software only uses GPS location as a service to you and does not store or share that information in any way.

Trouble Viewing the Map?

If you are running Internet Explorer and you receive a message that indicates there is a problem with the Google Maps API key, the problem is not with our software, the key, or Google. It is a known issue in several versions of IE.
